The Aries Ingress 2018 USA

This is a follow on post to the Mars Saturn Conjunction that was discussed here.  You may wish to read that post first for some important background on Aries Ingress charts.

There are several distinct traditions of Mundane astrology, that branch of astrology that deals with events which take part in the world. In this instance, we’ll be using the 17th century English astrologer William Ramesey’s method as he describes it in his Astrologia Munda. I find the text exceedingly clear and rational, but I hope to consider some other earlier methods in future, particularly alternative methods of identifying the Lord of the Year and the significator of the ruler, as well as timing methods.

The Aries Ingress chart 2018 and the Mars Saturn conjunction

The Aries Ingress is one of the fundamental tools of mundane astrology, the branch of traditional astrology which aims to determine the influence of the planets on the earth in general, such as weather, disease, famine, war, and the affairs of a country in particular.  A chart is drawn up for a particular location for the moment the Sun enters 0′ Aries and this chart is interpreted according to the rules of mundane astrology.

The Picatrix and the Invocation of Perfect Nature

Certain people inquired of Hermes the sage, asking: “With what are science and philsophy joined?”  He answered, “With Perfect Nature.”  They asked again, saying, “What is the root of science and philosophy?”  He said, “Perfect Nature.”  Then they questioned him more closely: “What is key by which science and philosophy are opened?”  He answered, “Perfect Nature.”  They then asked of him, “What is Perfect Nature?”  He answered, “Perfect Nature is the spirit of the philosopher or sage linked to the planet that governs him.  This is that which opens the closed places of knowledge and by which is understood that which cannot otherwise be understood at all, and from which workings proceed naturally both in sleep and waking.” Book III Chapter 6, The Picatrix transl. John Michael Greer & Christopher Warnock

Saturn Ascending in Capricorn Talisman elections 2018

Saturn, the Greater Malefic, is dignified in Capricorn for the next couple of years. Father Time ingressed into his own domicile on the 20th of this month to preside over this year’s Saturnalia festivities.

Saturn can be petitioned at this time for any of the things that he rules: for long life, for understanding profound sciences, for land and buildings and anything that can be found beneath the earth, for magical knowledge, and for the favour of powerful people, as well as the destruction of enemies, and to create discord between people.

Bonatti’s electional astrology for war and conquering enemies

In honour of Mars’ ingress into Scorpio, here is an election from Guido Bonatti’s Liber Astronomiae, Treatise 7 on Elections for going to war and for conquering enemies.

Given the serious nature of the subject (and the fact that the astrologer might get beheaded by either side if he gets this wrong), war elections can be incredibly involved and intricate. We require the following conditions:

Mars in Scorpio elections

Mars is dignified by domicile in Scorpio this month from 9 December and will remain in that sign until the 19th of January next year.  It is a good time to do all those martial things you’ve been putting off like crushing your enemies, seeing them driven before you and hearing the lamentation of their women.

Of course, if you are not a Cimmerian barbarian, or you are simply short of worthy enemies to vanquish, you may want to use the time to create a Mars talisman for strength, courage, protection and general Martian goodness.
